On the 28th of July 2023, Hand of Favor Global commemorated World Hepatitis Day by
conducting a hepatitis screening event at an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in
Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria. The initiative aimed to raise awareness about hepatitis, provide
much-needed healthcare support, and improve the well-being of the vulnerable people residing
in the camp.
As part of their commitment to public health, Hand of Favor Global organized the event with
40 medical student volunteers from Benue Teaching Hospital. The IDP camp, which houses
three thousand (3,000) displaced individuals and families affected by various crises, received
an overwhelming response from the residents as they gathered to benefit from the free
screening and healthcare services.
The hepatitis screening program started early in the morning and continued throughout the day.
Trained medical professionals and volunteers worked tirelessly to conduct tests, provide
counseling, and educate the participants about hepatitis, its causes, and preventive measures.
The screening process targeted both hepatitis B and C, as these pose a significant health risk in
the region and the country at large.
Speaking at the event, one of the team doctor of Hand of Favor Global, Dr. Richard Clement
emphasized the importance of early detection and treatment of hepatitis. He said “The
prevalence of hepatitis is a serious concern in our community, and it is crucial to spread
awareness and provide access to screenings and treatment.” He also expressed his gratitude to
the medical team, and volunteers who joined hands to make the event a success.
The event not only provided healthcare support but also fostered a sense of hope and solidarity
among the camp’s residents. Many of them expressed their gratitude for the foundation’s efforts,
highlighting the importance of such initiatives in addressing health disparities in underserved
communities.
As the World Hepatitis Day screening event came to a close, Hand of Favor Global recorded
almost 97% hepatitis negative result. The outreach was a powerful reminder that together, we
can make a change. We shared knowledge, offered support and touched lives with our message
of hope and prevention. At hand of Favor Global, we believe that we are not just a non-profit
organization, but an extension of God’s hand and work. It’s a healing hand, a helping hand,
and a consoling hand. We promote oneness, love and peace. Above all the love of God
